Happy New Year

by Rebecca Shyly, age 11

Wow! 2008. I can’t believe it’s already here. To people all over the world, the New Year brings many new hopes and dreams. Horse girls are no different. Those of us who don’t have horses might be hoping we get one in the coming year. Or maybe you really want to take lessons and think that you might get a shot this year. Or maybe if you already have horse (lucky!!!) you are dreaming bigger. Maybe you dream of something more.

You might be dreaming of ending horse slaughter or that every horse lives a good life until they die. Or that horse neglect will stop. All of us horse girls want this. It’s not wrong to want the other stuff too. That is just the way humans are. But think of others in your New Year’s resolutions too. Maybe promise yourself to smile at someone as you ride by either on a horse or in a car. If you’re buying a new horse, maybe rescue one from a killer auction instead of buying a fancy one. It could even be so small as helping your over burdened stable person muck out the stalls.

The New Year brings hope to all of us. Some of us hope for horses, some dream even bigger (like maybe a stable full of horses!). Whatever your hopes are for 2008, I hope they come true. Horse girls, have a very happy New Year!

  1. Nicely done Horsecrazzz! Those are ideas I would love to include on my resolution list. But since I don’t have resolutions, I’ll just keep them in mind. Thanks for sharing this! :D

  2. Happy new year everyone! I haven’t really got a new years resolution yet, I just want to keep learning and become a better rider, and take part in the pony week to learn more about horse care. Well, maybe I have got new years resolutions! ;)

  3. Yay! I didn’t think this one would get posted. Thanks LeadMare! I wanted everyone to know that New Years Resolutions don’t have to be about improving yourself, it can be about improving the world…

  4. Happy new year! My new year resoloution is to get my posting right and to finally stop biting my nails! Whenever I post I have a habit of putting my legs back too far when they should be all the way up by the girth.

  5. I have a few resoloutions but i have 2 main ones that i really want to achive.
    1. ride more, i want to ride ever second day, i only ride 2 times a week and thats a bit stupid since i see my horse every second day!
    2. teach my little sis how to canter and build up her confidence to do some just that are bigger then a trot pole, prob a little cross-rail or around 30CM.
    3. (i have one more) do really well in my first comp with my new horse (well i have had him for 7 months but he is still my newest horse!)! I haven’t been able to compete yet coz of the horse flu, but now i’m also extra ready and i’m sure i’ll do pretty well (i might even place! :D)
but i still want to teach my sis to canter so my old pony gets exersise and so my parents can know if she is serouis about riding! :D
