Time Goes On

I sit here at my wooden table watching the fluffy snowflakes lightly fall to the ground as I type to you. Our neighbor’s hunting Irish setter just zoomed by kicking up a mound of snow. This stirs up memories… so many memories.

I can remember watching my friend’s horses in their youth kicking up the snow in excitement. Horses gracefully dancing, in their own horsey kind of way, in circles around the pasture. That horse.. that friend is gone now.. he is sleeping peacefully for eternity.

Samson, my good old golden retriever. I had him since the day of my birth. Until my brothers were born he substituted for my playmate. Helping me build snowmen and snow horses in the winter.. and jumping in dad’s leaf pile (which he worked so hard on) in the Autumn. I lost him at the age of 15. but I gained so many memories.

At times around barns I see cats sitting near horses or goats playing with horses. I think wow, two different animals so far apart from each other and yet they get along. Grooming each other and playing as if they were related somehow. It’s amazing how humans bicker and struggle with one another and they are really from the same family, friends, and so on. At times maybe we should look at God’s creation and maybe just maybe we can learn something from it.

Life is short; make it last with what and those you cherish. Everything has an ending. But with that ending there is a beginning.

As time goes on remember those of the past, the present, and the future.

  10. I loved this blog HorseFeathers! I could relate to it and I almost felt like I was there, feeling what you felt, as you were writing this. With fluffy snowflakes falling outside, frost spreading over the windows… remembering days gone by. And I agree 100% with the message. Truly beautiful writing!
