True Winners

You’re at a horse show. You tried your best in your class, and did reasonably well for your first show. You place sixth in your class and are very pleased. That is, until, the first place rider walks by and begins talking to you about how well she did and how her horse deserved to be the best simply because he’s hers. Now you feel two inches tall. Even though you could be mean right back at her, you speak calmly and congratulate her on her victory. The first place rider is not the true winner; you are for being a decent person.
Riding is a very difficult sport. It can also get emotional sometimes. That’s why teamwork is so important and everyone must support each other. They should give each other a helping hand and not comment on mistakes you’ve made, unless they’re going to help each other. If you’re like my riding buddies and I, this is what happens. I fell off twice in the same lesson. At the end of the lesson everyone asked me if I was OK. Then, we started joking about how I made a new record by falling off twice in the same lesson on the same spot on the same horse. We are real winners. We are making each other better.
However, an acquaintance of mine has a friend that rides English on a competitive level. She’s going to nationals and some other highly ranked shows. She bragged about how her friend has her own horse and is so talented. She asked me about my horse and competition level and I told her I ride for the joy of the sport. She made a comment about how her friend was better. She is not a winner, nor a friend. She doesn’t even ride.
What I’m trying to say is that there are all different kinds of riders out there. Every person, rider or not, is different and you can’t always expect everyone to treat you with respect.
It’s not the rider with the ribbon of blue that wins, but the person with the heart of gold.

AWSOME BLOG! SO TRUE! You make the best blogs Julia xx
OMG!! I TOTALLY LOVE THIS BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s so true! Some riders are just brats, they brag about having fancy riding clothes and having their own horses. I hate that!

Animalsrkool: Everyone hear makes awsome blogs :)
Julia: Really, this is a teriffic blog!!
Horsecrazzz: Give ChaCha a hug from me too {:D}!! Good luckxx Hey, will you be riding or showmanshiping?
so true! i remember in my first competition a few years ago… i came first… out of a field of 1. I was the only rider in that class. Although I came first by beating no one – and being teased about it – i was very proud of my self! I got 60 something percent in an inexperienced class! Of course now I’m more experienced and riding novice tests, I keep surprising myself with every placing! Even if it may not be in the top 3!
Cassie, I know exactly how you feel! Only two weeks ago I started taking riding lessons and before when I could never ride horses I was sooo sad! I always thought of them, drew ictures of them, and wrote stories about them! Oe day you’ll ride horses too! My dream came ture and so will yours! :)
I do not ride mut my room is filled with millions of horses!Horse are my only subject.I loved going with my old freind Mckenna to Rochester hills and smelling the smell of horses.
I have a horse-her name is Rebas Laci Star, but I call her Lucky. I have not yet reached a level of riding that I am able to compete in shows yet, but I love riding my horse in our pasture. I do not care how many blue ribbons I win in shows, I just ride for the joy my heart feels when I hear my horses hoofs beat in rythem on the ground. ;;)
Thanks Girls! I did pretty good! I totally needeed your support though… I got two second places, two fourth places and a 3rd place! I competed in 6 classes and got 5 ribbons! Not bad! Just goes to show you that if horse girls put their mind to it, we can do anything!
Tori: I did both! I rode in Pleasure, Pleasure Pairs, Equoitation, Bareback, and the good old egg and spoon race! I also showed ChaCha in showmanship!
Now, about your blogs/stories Julia… you have 2 stop being so good at it! It’s just not fair how wonderful you are! ;) Any ways, keep up the amazing work! I absolutle LOVe it! Let me know if you write a book cause, I really want to read it!
