What Makes a Good Horse Book?
Published by GHC • Mar 26th, 2009 • Category: Books & Writingby Violet Inkpen, age 12
What makes the horse books we read good? I think in books like Thoroughbred, Heartland, and others it is the fact that the charters are the underdogs; the ones who have to work extra hard to get what they want.
Things aren’t easy in life, but if we read about charters who struggle yet make it through then we realize that we can make it through too! Books are so much fun to read; especially if there is some kind of BIG danger to face! I know many of you have seen Terri Farley around the barn; her books are AMAZING! Excitement in every chapter! THAT is what draws readers into a book.
Word of advice: if you get bored WRITING IT they are going to get board READING IT. So write something that makes even YOUR heart pound in excitement and you’ll find more people reading it!
Hope this helps you in your writing. It helps me kick up my heels and make something new and exciting in my books and writings!

Good job on your blog. It was a real encouragement for me. I will try to write as much as a read.
The books you refered to as good are some of my favourite. :)
I’m not much on writing horse stories. I prefer wiriting history thme stories, and mysteries.
I like every single series you mentioned! Wow, its true, great minds DO think alike! LOL! Thanks for the advice, I am so going to use it.
I have wrote three horse books of my own so far and I’m working on a fourth! Great advice!
I’m working on a horse/girl story right now,and after many tries I think I’ve found a story line that I want to continue(big smile!) it took me at least 3 tries of changing everything before I was happy with it.I hope I’ll stay happy with it this time!
Thanks a lot for the advice, I needed some of it badly!
I have written two books with horses in them and I am working on a fantasy right now. I’ll give you some advice for writting: Don’t worry about puctuation or spelling, you’ll type it out later and can correct it.
