What This Horse Has Taught Me

My boots crunch on gravel
I’m trying not to cry
Sometimes it seems like my life has unraveled
But there is still hope
The smell of the barn envelopes me
I grab his halter
And I’m on my way to the pasture
Where I can be freed
The gate clangs as I swing it shut
I am almost to tears
I fully intend to bury my face in his mane and cry
To tell him all about my fears
His nicker rings out and breaks the silence
I smile for I no longer need to cry
As he makes his way towards where I stand
I can feel my tears dry
He snorts when he greets me
He’s there when I need him
When I am with him
Everything seems better
A light shines in the darkness
I see now that everything seems so much worse when you’re young
What this horse has taught me
Is that everything will get better
