PegasusSome people debate about weather or not there are unicorns, Pegasus, and other mythological horses. Do you believe?

Stories can be made up easily; I myself enjoy writing fiction. But the legends and ideas have to come from somewhere. I write about horses, wolves, and things that I’ve seen or heard about but if I have never heard about them before how would I know about them?

Someone somewhere HAD to see a unicorn or a Pegasus. Perhaps they saw a bird and a horse running together like in the movie spirit and decided to make up a story of them being together? One thing is for sure; the story started somewhere!

There have been a few deer born with only one horn instead of two. Maybe someone saw a deer like that and thought about a story with a horse and a horn?

I did some research and found this on Wikipedia:

UnicornA UNICORN (from Latin unus ‘one’ and cornu ‘horn’) is a mythological creature. Though the modern popular image of the unicorn is sometimes that of a horse differing only in the horn on its forehead, the traditional unicorn also has a billy-goat beard, a lion’s tail, and cloven hooves—these distinguish it from a horse. Marianna Mayer has observed (The Unicorn and the Lake), “The unicorn is the only fabulous beast that does not seem to have been conceived out of human fears. In even the earliest references he is fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful. He could be captured only by unfair means, and his single horn was said to neutralize poison.”

Of course this is probably just someone else’s guess. Who knows? Unicorns could exist after all!

The question is… do YOU believe?

  1. Actualy i believe unicorns were real and might be still. However I believe they might have been more related to cattle than a horse. Yes I think there was a cattle-like animal with one horn. I have seen sheep with 4 horns (its a real breed). The unicorn is mentioned in the King James Bible many times. Numbers 23:22 “God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were teh strength of a unicorn. Job 39:9-12 “Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib. Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him? Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?” Pslam 29:6 “He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. Psalm 92:10 “But my hron shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.”

These are just a few. Good job!

  2. Good Job Vi!! I REALLY loved it! and horse feathers i had NO idea they were mentioned in the bible that is really cool.

  3. I love your story.I don’t belive in unicorns, but i love to read about them and draw them.Thank!

  4. My idea is that they might have existed before the Great Flood (and perhaps dragons too) but on the day the rains began for what ever reason they were not on Noah’s Ark and therefore perished in the storm. I don’t know, just a thought….:)

  5. I love unicorns!and believe in both as well!this is such a cool blog and bloger!

  6. awesome Job! I believe that unicorns are REAL magical creatures!

  7. That makes sense, Salina. That may be what happened. Or maybe they were on Noah’s ark and they became extinct later on. Great blog! I’d never really thought of the possibility that unicorns were once real.

  8. Very True ive heard they’ve gotten extinct around 500 or 5000 ad or bc but i dont believe it because the reason why we dont see unicorns around anymore it because of three reasons:1they disapear when they mainly see males.2:since male hunters would hunt them in the medeival times they would not trust humans no more.and 3yes they only came to girls and women because they were pure, but they think they would come and hunt them, trust me i know absolutely everything about unicorns and magical creatures but im an expert about them, and be aware because girls and women of good have more of a better chance to have a unicorn at there side but males, uhh they feel insecure and try to defend themselves and will want to attack more.

  9. To say the truth I had never really thought about whether unicorns were real or not. Yes, they are mythological creatures, which means they aren’t real. But I think horses are almost mythological themselves, because I haven’t ever seen another animal with their magnificence. In this case, that doesn’t mean they aren’t real though. Building on that, maybe a unicorn is actually an enhanced horse. It has a horn which can heal those poisoned like a horse has nuzzles to give us when we’re poisoned by sorrow. It is selfless, fierce yet good exactly like a spirited horse who still is willing to be ridden. Who knows? Maybe a horse-crazed girl long ago invented a unicorn based on a horse she met before to show everyone how wonderful horses are.

Beautiful blog Violet Inkpen, keep it up!

  10. Great blog! I love unicorns, and I think that some things will always be real, so long as there are people to believe in them. And the best part is? In the untamed wild and striking lands of the imagination, unicorns can ALWAYS be real!

  11. I believe that unicorns are NOT fairytales. They really do exist. That’s what I think.

    GREAT job on the blog.

  12. In the Bible it mentions the Lavithian, THE SEA DRAGON. I believe they are real too and I know MANY more verses about unicorns. I believe Dinohosours were extinct and dragons too by hunting. Knights proved themselves by ‘slaying the dragon’ until there were no more to slay. Maybe they…*gulp* hunted unicrons too?

I believe that sometime, somewhere, a unircon galloped along the ground, made of wind and air, crafted like a diamons, sparkling like a jewl, wild as an eagle, pure as love. Either in imagenation, in a mustang, or in the wind it’s self. Unicorns exist; inside of us. there is a unicorn in every horse giving them thier loveable kindness and amazing power.

  13. Well said Violet Inkpen!
