Winter Blues (Or Not)

Winter is nearly here, and with the cold weather comes the winter riding blues. Many people cut themselves off from horses during the winter, just because they can’t ride. I think this is sad, because the cold weather brings out a new opportunity: bonding with your horse!
If you can’t ride or do groundwork, there are still lots of things you can do with your horse. Spend some time in his stall with him. Find the place where he likes to be rubbed. Becoming a bigger part of his life will improve your relationship.
The cold weather is also a great chance to improve your knowledge about horses without using any books. Head out to the barn and observe your horse. Watch and learn as he socializes, scratches, eats, and rests. Take some notes. You may end up learning something.
Don’t throw away these cold winter months. Take advantage of them! You’ll be surprised how much better a team you and your horse are come spring.

Nice and short but very informative blog, Stargazer. Great job! It just goes to prove that you can never feel down when there’s horses around. When the time comes for me to have a horse, I’d try out the tips you gave, even if the winter weather isn’t really extreme.
