PLOT
& THEME: Is the story creative and imaginative? Does it
have a clear beginning, middle and end? A good beginning usually
introduces the characters and the main plot. The middle generally
tells the story, often building to a moment of intensity. The
end concludes the story.
CHARACTERS:
Are
the characters interesting and believable? Whether your characters
are real (non-fiction) or imagined (fiction), you'll want readers
to *feel* your characters are real.
SETTING:
Is
the setting (the location or locations where the story takes place)
interesting and believable? Often writers use the Internet to
do research for their stories. Wikipedia is a great place for research.
EDITING:
Every writer needs a good editor. Show your story to a parent
or friends. Ask them for feedback. We suggest using a word processing
program, like OpenOffice
Writer (free), an email program or Microsoft Word. If you want to be published, remember that
grammar, punctuation and spelling matters! We really appreciate writers
who review their work before submitting.
CHAPTER STORIES: We only publish chapter stories that are complete. It's OK if you want to submit one chapter at a time, but all chapters will be set aside until the last chapter arrives with 'THE END' as the final words. At that point it will be considered for publication.
