To get started:

1) IMPORTANT: Read the Book Club Rules & Writer's Guidelines below *and* the Frequently Asked Questions for your best shot at getting published.

2) Find your muse. If you have writer's block try reading some of the stories already in the Loft Book Club for inspiration.

3) When the story is complete, simply Submit Your Story Online! We strongly suggest writing your story in a word processing program like OpenOffice Writer (free), an email program or Microsoft Word, saving it on your local computer, then pasting it into the story submission form when it's complete.

When your creation arrives on our server, it's reviewed (by a *real* person) to be sure it follows the Book Club Rules and Writer's Guidelines below, then posted to the Book Club under "More Stories."

Each month we choose the "best of breed" stories to participate in Judge for Yourself voting. Only completed stories are eligible. Members may vote for their favorites throughout the month. Winning stories receive a special ribbon graphic and are showcased in the Featured Stories section of the Book Club the following month.

WHO CAN SUBMIT: The Loft Book Club is open to all Girls Horse Club members. CLICK HERE TO BECOME A MEMBER. No purchase necessary and no personal information is collected except as necessary to consider your submission.

HOW TO SUBMIT A STORY: Write a horse-themed story or poem then submit it using our online submission form. Submit one story or many. We publish quality over quantity -- put your best effort into each story. We do not publish every submission we receive. Read the Writer's Guidelines below for the best shot at getting published.

SUBMISSION AGREEMENT: GirlsHorseClub.com wants to nurture the talent of horse girls so we offer this free editing and publishing service at no cost to anyone who wants to share a story. Stories must be written by you (the entrant) and rights must belong to you. By submitting a story, you agree that submissions may be freely edited and published on GirlsHorseClub.com.

If you're serious about wanting your story in the Book Club, please familiarize yourself with the following guidelines.

PLOT & THEME: Is the story creative and imaginative? Does it have a clear beginning, middle and end? A good beginning usually introduces the characters and the main plot. The middle generally tells the story, often building to a moment of intensity. The end concludes the story.

CHARACTERS: Are the characters interesting and believable? Whether your characters are real (non-fiction) or imagined (fiction), you'll want readers to *feel* your characters are real.

SETTING: Is the setting (the location or locations where the story takes place) interesting and believable? Often writers use the Internet to do research for their stories. Wikipedia is a great place for research.

EDITING: Every writer needs a good editor. Show your story to a parent or friends. Ask them for feedback. We suggest using a word processing program, like OpenOffice Writer (free), an email program or Microsoft Word. If you want to be published, remember that grammar, punctuation and spelling matters! We really appreciate writers who review their work before submitting.

CHAPTER STORIES: We only publish chapter stories that are complete. It's OK if you want to submit one chapter at a time, but all chapters will be set aside until the last chapter arrives with 'THE END' as the final words. At that point it will be considered for publication.
