Angel waited patiently until night fell, then she crept from her hiding place. Astride Gypsy, she silently made her way across the field to the tiny paddock. As usual, she went around the side of the house. She dismounted Gypsy and snuck over to the paddock. Lone Star saw her and pricked his ears. He stayed silent though. Kuzuma, however, broke into a series of excited whinnies that pierced the air.

Angel froze. Kuzuma didn't take the hint though. She reared and began to kick the fence. By now, the lights had turned on in the old house and there was movement.

I'll be caught! thought Angel frantically. She rushed forward and unbolted the gate.

Lone Star and Kuzuma bolted towards Gypsy, with Angel on their heels. But the man had already rushed from the house. "HEY!!!!!" he yelled angrily.

Angel was already on Gypsy, but as Angel turned Gypsy, the man grabbed her ankle and Angel was pulled off.

This is it, thought Angel, I'm dead!

Then from out of nowhere, Lone Star was suddenly there. He reared and struck the man with his hooves. The man made a startled cry and stepped back, dragging Angel with him. Lone Star reared again, and this time Angel saw somthing in his eye. What was it? Fear? Courage? Determination?

Angel didn't have time to figure it out, because the next thing she knew Lone Star had come down upon the man with such force the man was knocked down. He let go of Angel, and she immediately scrambled to her feet. Lone Star trotted over to Angel when the man was knocked-out.

Angel looked at the man for a minute, then went quickly into his house to search for a rope.
